Cathy's blog on self catering holiday cottages

Share your thoughts and ideas on what I have to say about all sorts of things to do with UK self catering cottage holidays.

  • My parents were delighted to hear that I would be returning to Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland to celebrate my birthday in a holiday cottage. I had spent many childhood holidays there, travelling out to the Inner and Outer Hebrides aboard the island ferries. We never called it island-hopping in those days, but in reality it was exactly that.

  • It wasn't a great summer this year. However on our cottage holiday in Cornwall we did manage to get to the beach, it seemed, every other day. Going on recommendations from fellow holidaymakers and locals we discovered some fantastic locations that, quite rightly, Cornwall is famous for. However it was not just the setting that that will make the day I am about to describe live on in our memories

  • I'm very lucky that my home overlooks Ilkley Moor. The moor is probably most famous for the song that has become the unofficial anthem of Yorkshire. It tells of a lover courting the object of his affections, Mary Jane, on Ilkley Moor without a hat (baht 'at).
