Here's what you can see and do when staying at one of our holiday cottages in England's North country.
Boasting five National Parks: the Lake District, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Northumbria and six World Heritage Sites, the North of England has it all. Cottages offer great accommodation for those considering country holidays in these great locations. Come and go as you please, stroll to the village pub or stay in - relaxing in the garden if the weather permits, or around the fire on a winter's evening.
From rugged moorland to fascinating cities, from inspirational coastlines to historical masterpieces, Yorkshire is rich in beauty, adventure and history. Our featured Yorkshire Dales holiday cottages include locations such as; Wensleydale, home to the famous cheese; Swaledale, the most northerly and some say the most beautiful of the Yorkshire dales; and Nidderdale, close to the World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey. Throughout history the landscape has been shaped by man's attempts to harness the natural resources, whether by building drystone walls creating a jigsaw across the hills and dales, or constructing mills to make use of the rivers flowing fast off the fells.
With its selection of holiday cottages England's north east coast is a great place for a seaside holiday. Here you will find the traditional resorts of Filey and Scarborough, fishing villages like Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes clinging to the cliffs as well as the fascinating town of Whitby, a favourite seaside destination for holidaymakers.
Country holidays are becoming more popular than ever, allowing you to enjoy the comforts of home in beautiful scenic settings. So why not consider much overlooked Lancashire. Alongside the well known vibrant seaside resort of Blackpool and historic cosmopolitan cities of Manchester and Liverpool, Lancashire boasts charming rural villages with stunning landscapes and varied coastline waiting to be discovered.
Cumbria and the Lake District are magical. Rarely do you find cottages in England with such superb views than from a Lakeland property. For many, this is the most beautiful scenery in England. Within a 30-mile radius the visitor will find a collection of sparkling lakes and majestic fells to enjoy.
Without doubt the jewel in the crown of Durham is the impressive cathedral which, together with the nearby castle, has been a World Heritage site since 1987. To the west of the city is a remote and sparsely populated country of moorland and dales, home to an industrial heritage of lead mines and quarries. If you are staying at one of our Durham Dales holiday cottages you can admire the uncompromising yet beautiful landscape, known as England's Last Wilderness.
Northumberland features historic sites aplenty, spanning the history of England. Roman remains abound along the World Heritage site of Hadrian's Wall. Sitting just off the coast, accessible via a causeway, is the cradle of Christianity in England - Lindisfarne, the Holy Island. Also there are many impressive medieval castles, some occupied such as majestic Bamburgh or the eerie ruins of Dunstanburgh a few miles down the coast. The coastline offers mile after mile of uncrowded sandy beaches, dotted with pretty coastal villages such as Craster, famous for its kippers and Alnmouth sitting between the sea and the mouth of the River Aln. From Seahouses boats trips leave for the Farne Islands, a group of low-lying, uninhabited rocks which are home to millions of seabirds including puffins, shags and guillemots as well as colonies of seals.
By selecting one of our holiday cottages England and the many attractions of its North Country can be discovered.
