By selecting one of our holiday cottages North Yorkshire and its beautiful landscape beckons. Many motorists drive onto the North York Moors up the steep hill past the famous White Horse of Kilburn, carved into the chalk escarpment rising from the Vale of York and well known for its panoramic views. This area, designated a National Park, is bleak, yet beautiful, a mix of moorland and verdant valleys, perfect for walkers of all levels. Another way of exploring the area is to ride a steam train ride on the North York Moors Railway. The moors drop dramatically down to the sea forming, a ragged coastline dotted with charming fishing villages such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay, where traditional North Yorkshire cottages cling to the cliffs. Between the two lies a seaside town dominated by the famous ruins of St Hilda's Abbey.
Whitby holiday cottages have long been popular with visitors. A maze of alleys and narrow streets run down to Whitby's busy quayside, where the famous Magpie Cafe is reputed to be the best fish and chip restaurant in the country. From the old town, adjacent to some of our Whitby holiday cottages, 199 steps rise steeply to the parish church of St. Mary, whose churchyard on Whitby's East Cliff inspired Bram Stoker to write the famous tale of Count Dracula. No wonder this former whaling port is today a popular haunt for fans of Goth culture. Further down the coast is the former seaside spa of Scarborough, an interesting mix of fishing port and modern family resort, overlooked by a medieval castle. If you're planning a break in North Yorkshire cottages these resorts offer an ideal base for exploring this region.Cottages close to the Yorkshire Moors & Coast
