Here's what you can see and do when staying at one of our Berwickshire cottages.
The fact that the county town of Berwickshire is Duns, a quiet, typical Borders town in Scotland and not Berwick, in England, might give an insight into the turbulent history of this county. It is an excellent location for enjoying a holiday with a flavour of Scotland yet conveniently located for visiting Northumberland as well as Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.
Berwickshire itself is a rich agricultural land to the north of the beautiful River Tweed with the rolling open moorland of the Lammermuir Hills in the north of the county. From one of our cottages Berwickshire and its rugged coastline await discovery. Attractions include the jagged cliffs of St Abbs Head, a nature reserve for thousands of nesting seabirds including guillemots, kittiwakes and puffins. There are also a number of castles and stately homes with perhaps the finest being Ayton, a magnificent red sandstone castle with imposing silhouette and mighty tower.
