Selkirkshire lies to the south of Edinburgh and is a rolling, upland Borders county dissected by the valleys of the Ettrick and Yarrow rivers, which merge in the east with the River Tweed. The two main towns, both in the east of the county, are Selkirk the county town and the pleasant and spaciously laid out town of Galashiels, both of which were built around the textile milling industry.
