Moray cottages - or more correctly Morayshire - offer the ideal base for exploring the counties of Morayshire and Banffshire, lying between the Moray Firth to the north and Cairngorm Mountains to the south. The Firth is one of the most important places in Britain for observing dolphins and whales, while the mountains give rise to the River Spey which reaches the sea between the small cathedral city of Elgin and the fishing port of Buckie. The Spey is one of the finest salmon rivers in the world and also supplier of the precious water that makes the finest whiskies in the world, the Speyside Malts. Famous names such as Glenlivet, Glen Grant, Glenfarclas, Cardhu and Glenfiddich are based here and many of the distilleries are open to the public.
