Mid Wales possesses many beauty spots and unspoiled villages. With its selection of holiday cottages Mid Wales is also rich in attractions for those who enjoy the outdoors. Popular pastimes which are well catered for here include angling, golf, walking, cycling, horse-riding and water sports. Those who like nothing better than visiting great gardens and historic castles while on holiday will also be well suited.
Comprising the counties of Powys and Ceredigion, Mid Wales is one of the least populated and most unspoilt areas of the UK and has the feel of a place where time has stood still.
On the coast of Ceredigion lies popular Cardigan Bay with its superb beaches, pretty coastal resorts, dramatic cliffs and spectacular coastal paths, making it one of the most popular stretches of coastline for cottages to rent in Wales. It also boasts Britain's first offshore Marine Heritage Coast, home to important colonies of bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic grey seals and harbour porpoises, as well as a variety of sea-birds nesting on the cliff-tops. Within easy reach of the coast is wonderful upland scenery in the Cambrian Mountains with forest trails and spectacular mountain routes for walkers and bikers alike.
Powys can be overlooked in favour of its better-known neighbours Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, yet from our selection of holiday cottages Mid Wales and its unique character are very much in evidence here. Powys is split by three major rivers, the Severn, Wye and Usk, flowing west to east across the county. The wild mountains and exposed hills of its north and west contrast sharply with the calm, flat river plains to the east, while the Brecon Beacons National Park forms a natural border to the south. The National Park covers four mountain ranges, the Black Mountains to the east on the English border, Fforest Fawr, the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountain to the west. This is superb walking country as much of the area consists of high open country with red sandstone peaks; whilst to the south there are limestone crags, wooded gorges, waterfalls and caves to explore.
