The Gower, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire possess some glorious, clean beaches and a great variety marine life including dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks, Atlantic grey seals and leatherback turtles.
The Gower Peninsula was Britain's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and, though its relatively short coastline stretches only 19 miles, it can boast some 70 bays and beaches as well as wild moorland and dramatic limestone cliffs.
Carmarthenshire - 'The Garden of Wales' - offers visitors a green, rolling landscape, excellent gardens and extensive parkland to enjoy, including The National Botanic Garden of Wales which opened in 2000. Its coast is dotted with fishing villages and some fine beaches - notably those at Pendine and Cefn Sidan - while the sleepy seaside town of Laugharne was home to Dylan Thomas. For visitors, holiday cottages in South Wales offer the ideal type of accommodation as a base for getting to know this fascinating region.
Pembrokeshire is bordered by the sea on three sides, boasting the only all-coastal National Park. For visitors to West Wales holiday cottages make a great base from which to discover more than 50 glorious beaches. The bustling resort of Tenby retains its character with fine Georgian houses overlooking the handsome harbour, backed by a well-preserved medieval cliff-top town of narrow streets and passages. While holidaying in any of our West Wales cottages a trip to the pretty coastal village of St David's should be on the agenda. With its own cathedral this is Britain's smallest city, a site of ancient pilgrimage where St David, the Patron Saint of Wales, was born.
The Brecon Beacons National Park offers some excellent hill-walking opportunities and comprises four mountain ranges; on the English border to the east lie the Black Mountains, Fforest Fawr, the Brecon Beacons and, to the west, the Black Mountain. Much of the area consists of high open country with red sandstone peaks; whilst to the south there are limestone crags, wooded gorges, waterfalls and caves to explore.
