To the north, it rises to the high areas of Fforest Fawr and the Black Mountain (Brecon Beacons National Park) extending into Carmarthenshire and the Cambrian Mountains. From our choice of cottages in Carmarthenshire these excellent walking regions, and the delightful county town, are within easy reach. South lies a coastline of cliffs and fine sandy beaches. From our holiday cottages Carmarthenshire awaits discovery; be sure not to miss the National Botanic Garden of Wales in the unspoiled Tywi Valley, featuring Mediterranean flora as well as typical Welsh species. At the centre of this Garden, created in celebration of the Milennium, sits Sir Norman Foster's Great Glasshouse, the world's largest single-span 'greenhouse'.
Nearby is Aberglasney, dating from the 16th and 17th century, a garden designed to incorporate six different spaces within its 10 acres. Also close by, at the National Trust's Dinefwr Park, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panorama across Carmarthenshire and the beautiful Tywi Valley, from Dinefwr Castle. Fforest Fawr is one of just 30 or so Geoparks across Europe, each with its own great geological story to tell; here mountain and moorland, woods and meadows, towns and villages, lakes and rivers converge. The prehistoric Dan-yr-Ogof caves form the largest complex of their kind in northern Europe while old Roman gold mines lie close to the village of Pumsaint. Carreg Cennan Castle, near Llandeilo, sits atop a 300ft crag offering spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
The perfect setting for a break in a holiday cottage Carmarthenshire has a coastline dotted with fishing villages and fine beaches - notably those at Pendine and Cefn Sidan - while the sleepy seaside town of Laugharne was home to Dylan Thomas. He lived at the Boathouse, now a heritage centre, and is buried at St Martin's Church. So, why not browse our selection of cottages in Carmarthenshire to find something that catches your eye?
