The lake bends and twists its way through spectacular panoramas against a backdrop of mountain scenery on one side and a gently curving shoreline of green fields and woodlands on the other. The perfect way to enjoy Ullswater is by taking a cruise on one of the steamers, with sailings all year round. There are regular sailings between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding, calling at Howtown on the eastern shore. A popular option is to take the steamer from Glenridding to Howtown and then walk back along the lakeshore.

This charmingly furnished property (shown bottom right with patio doors) enjoys a wonderful lakeside setting in 2 acres of beautiful gardens which sweep down to the shores of Lake Ullswater, with breathtaking views (pictured). The double bedroom has a coronet draped bed and a romantic concealed ceiling light over the bath. Adjoining the owners’ home, visitors enjoy use of the private lake frontage with a jetty for launching a small boat and fishing. Windsurfing, sailing, golf, walking and pony trekking are available locally. Pooley Bridge (1.5 miles) has shops, tea rooms and inns, and there is a restaurant within walking distance.
