This grand 19th century house is situated in a delightful village just a couple of miles from Oakham, the pretty county town of Rutland, England's smallest county. Without doubt Rutland Water is the focus for many on holiday in Rutland. At the time of construction it was Europe's largest man-made lake and has established itself as a real tourist attraction. It is the perfect place to enjoy a cycle ride in a safe and family friendly environment with a relatively flat cycle track around the reservoir. The full circuit of nearly 30 miles, including frequent stops to enjoy the scenery or a pub lunch, is a great day out. Rutland Water offers fishing, bike hire, sailing, boat cruises, nature reserves where you can watch the famous Rutland ospreys and even a climbing wall for the kids.

Property Description

In the beautiful unspoilt village of Langham sits Ranksborough Hall in Rutland. This large grand house was built in 1893 for Lord Ranksborough who was then equerry to Queen Victoria. These days the hall and its surrounding fifty acre of parkland are now home to many exclusive residential and holiday homes as well as a lovely sited touring park. The delightful county of Rutland is definitely one of England’s best kept secrets as it has been mentioned many times now as ’The Cotswolds without the crowds’. Three of the five properties are located within the courtyard setting whilst The Hall Apartment is a lovely ground floor apartment in the wing of Ranksborough Hall itself, giving guests an exquisite insight in to living within the grand old building. The West Wing Apartment, suitable for larger groups and very spacious, is also located in the Hall and is spread over three floors. Just a few minutes’ stroll from the Hall will take guests into the village of Langham with its two historic pubs and just a mere two miles away is the market town of Oakham with its medieval castle, county museum, fine galleries, shops and a plethora of places to eat. For the gardening enthusiasts a visit to Barnsdale Gardens is a must. For the energetic there are plenty of walks with the Jurassic, Viking and Macmillan Ways to explore and with the famous Rutland Water very close by, the whole area will totally immerse everyone who visits the county into joining into Rutland’s lovely relaxed way of life. Enjoy a long and lazy lunch or an energetic days golf in the surrounding towns and villages around Ranksborough Hall.
