The pier is overlooked by the ruins of a Benedictine priory and a castle which have stood guard over the River Tyne and formed a major part of England's coastal defences for several centuries.

Just two minutes’ stroll from Longsands’ splendid Blue Flag beach, this charming renovated cottage is ideally located for beach lovers, walkers and surfers. Tynemouth is known for its heritage beaches and bustling seaside village life. A 10 minute walk leads to the Castle and Priory, in their commanding position overlooking King Edwards bay (pictured). Newcastle city centre is a 30 mins Metro train ride away. Gateshead’s Baltic art centre and Sage music venue are in easy reach as are the Northumberland coast’s many attractions. Pub serving food 200 yards, shops 0.25 miles.
