In the heart of Royal Deeside, Glenbardie is an excellent base for touring this beautiful and varied part of the Highlands. Balmoral Castle is just 7 miles away and the Castle, Whisky and Heritage Trails, and the ski centres at Glenshee and the Lecht make this an ideal holiday centre at any time of year. There is lovely walking to be enjoyed in this area of wooded moorland, lochs and nature reserves, with the magnificent Grampians to the north. Ballater boasts excellent shops, pubs and restaurants, sports centre, cycle hire, golf and fishing on the River Dee, and riding is available nearby.

Peter has worked in senior positions within the travel industry for nearly 30 years.
I was a journalist and latterly a deputy editor of a newspaper until I began to raise my family. We are both keen walkers and have the good fortune to live in the Yorkshire Dales. We both have a passion for exploring this beautiful island of ours and believe that staying in self catering holiday cottages is one of the best ways to really get to know the UK. There is so much variety in the landscape, the architecture, the customs, the food and drink and the people.
Despite increasing uniformity, we believe that you can still discover this rich diversity if you look hard enough and you will have a much more fulfilling holiday for that.
