Formerly a farm steading on the Stonefield Castle Estate, Barmore Farm's range of handsome stone buildings, some dating from the early 19th century, have been carefully restored to create six attractive cottages, clustered round a garden courtyard and surrounded by 30 acres of countryside grounds. Located in the beautiful Kintyre peninsula, they sit just 2 miles north of the picturesque harbour at Tarbert, one of the few natural harbours in Scotland and a popular sailing destination. Visitors will find a children's play area and plenty of space at Barmore as well as numerous activities for all the family around Tarbert, including nearby beaches and coves to explore and excellent walking on the Kintyre Way, a marked walk stretching the length of the peninsula and broken into seven shorter country and coastal walks. The surrounding landscape is a nature lovers' paradise among the wildlife visitors may spot are red squirrels, deer, sea eagles, buzzards, otters and now even beavers, recently released into the area (the only location where this has occurred in the UK). For the energetic, wind surfing, horse riding and mountain biking can all be enjoyed nearby as can clay pigeon shooting, whilst golfers are well provided for by five local courses and the championship course at Machrihanish near Campbeltown.
Internationally renowned for its fresh seafood caught in Loch Fyne, the sea loch just by Tarbert, and around the west coast, Tarbert also hosts a number of festivals throughout the year the Scottish Sailing Regatta in May, the Seafood Festival in July and the Music Festival in September. This most attractive fishing village also offers a good selection of craft shops, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants. Island trips are plentiful with Islay and Arran accessible from nearby ferry points, whilst Gigha's white sands and shallow waters, ideal for swimming, are only a 30 minute ferry trip away. Further afield, ferries from Oban one hour's drive take the visitor to the beautiful isles of Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Kerrera. The nearest shops and pubs are 2 miles away in Tarbert.
Cosily heated and very comfortable, set near the coast yet surrounded by rural tranquillity, the cottages at Barmore Farm are ideal for a relaxing Scottish holiday, whatever the season.
