In a nutshell: Walk to beach and shop, enclosed garden, toddler friendly. Among the holiday cottages Ayrshire can offer is this cosy property in the beautiful little coastal village of Maidens. It retains an old world air of peace and tranquillity and boasts a lovely long sandy beach and an old fishing harbour which is today mainly used by pleasure craft. Just a couple of miles to the north is one of the best-preserved castles in Britain - Culzean. Described as the National Trust for Scotland's crown jewels, it was built in the 18th century and sits atop a cliff overlooking the Clyde.
