Eyemouth is an old-fashioned seaside town at the mouth of the River Eye, with a sandy beach, natural harbour and an excellent 18-hole golf course. Fishing at Eyemouth dates back to the 13th century and today the harbour is still active with its colourful fleet. Just across the border, though not the River Tweed, Berwick is England's most dramatic walled town. Its border location meant it changed hands many times, often violently, and its town walls are testament to its past as a valued asset fought over by the English and the Scots. Venturing inside the formidable walls you will find a charming and eclectic Georgian market town with a huge range of things to do and enjoy including some great museums - try the Berwick Barracks and Main Guard - as well as galleries and an Arts Centre.

Boasting far reaching views to the Cheviot Hills and lovely walking from the doorstep, this cosy and comfortable cottage (shown right of photograph) is set just 5 miles from sandy beaches at the village of Eyemouth, where visitors can feed wild grey seals. Enjoying its own garden, the cottage sits on the owners’ 200 acre arable farm, an idyllic spot threaded with many footpaths. Boat trips are easily available and the nearby coastline is famed for crystal clear waters, shipwrecks and diverse marine life – a paradise for divers. Picturesque St Abbs, with its harbour and nature reserve, the golden sands of Coldingham Bay and historic Berwick-upon-Tweed are under 10 miles whilst the beautiful city of Edinburgh is an hour’s drive. The village of Ayton’s imposing castle, shop and pub are 3 miles.
