These two Durham holiday cottages are an excellent base from which to discover the northern Pennines. The upland scenery is quite breathtaking, with many fells rising to over 2000 feet. From this small market town in upper Weardale the other Durham Dales are within easy reach. Nearby is Middleton-in-Teesdale, at the heart of the upper Tees valley, a small town with a distinct farming atmosphere - surrounded by pastureland, criss-crossed with dry stone walls and a less obvious industrial heritage than Weardale. Just up-river is Cauldron Snout, where the river cuts through the upper fells, forming what is reckoned to be the longest waterfall in England only to cascade a few miles later over the aptly named High Force.

In the heart of Weardale, an area of outstanding natural beauty these two delightful byre conversions sit just a 5 minute stroll from Stanhope's village pubs and shops. Set adjoining the owners' farmhouse home, the cottages offer wonderful fell walking from the doorstep and an ideal base from which to explore the area's attractions. The Dales Centre is found in Stanhope itself, which also boasts a popular open air swimming pool, and cycling, golf and riding can all be enjoyed nearby. The fascinating Killhope lead mining centre is close by and the Lake District, historic city of Durham, Beamish Museum and Newcastle are all under an hour's drive.
