In a nutshell: Pet friendly, wi-fi, walk to village pub and shops. If you are keen walkers looking for holiday cottages Durham has some great properties giving access to the fells of the northern Pennines. Known as the last wilderness in England, here you will find some of the highest, wildest and finest scenery in the country. The bleak and foreboding northern Pennines have a mysterious splendour and the stunning surroundings are reason enough to spend time in Weardale, from the gentle lowland slopes around Stanhope to the higher heather covered moor land areas above, many reaching to over 2000 feet.
