In a nutshell: Detached, wi-fi, pet friendly, two bathrooms. Lying at the foot of the northern Pennines, this small group of Cumbrian cottages offers a great base for exploring the wild uplands, beautiful dales and valleys as well as the charming villages and towns in the immediate vicinity. Brough itself is well known for its ruined 12th-century castle, set in wild moorland on the site of an old Roman fort. Kirkby Stephen just a few miles along the Eden Valley at the entrance to the wonderfully named and ruggedly striking Mallerstang, the valley of the upper Eden. It leads through to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales and is the route the Settle-Carlisle railway line follows. This charming, if unassuming town, has a pleasant main street with a cobbled market square and large parish church known locally as the Cathedral of the Dales.

In the beautiful upper Eden Valley, nestling between Appleby and Kirkby Stephen at the foot of the Cumbrian Pennines, these detached timber lodges provide holiday accommodation of an excellent standard. Tastefully furnished, very comfortable and well equipped, they enjoy countryside views and a totally separate and lovely setting on a no through lane within a small, rural caravan park. The park encourages wildlife and has a conservation pond with a wide variety of birds in the surrounding woodlands and frequent visits from Roe Deer. These are a wonderful base for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits – just a mile away, good roads give access to the myriad attractions and stunning landscapes of the Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales and County Durham, and the shops, pubs and restaurants of Brough are also only 1 mile.
