In a nutshell: Detached, pet friendly, open fire, conservatory, two bathrooms. A visit to the nearby Levens Hall is recommended whilst staying at this characterful Lake District cottage. Levens Hall is an Elizabethan mansion built around a 13th-century Pele tower - a small fortified keep, one of many built in this part of the country and intended as watch towers to warn of approaching Scots invaders. Visitors often comment on the warm and friendly atmosphere of the house, although many come to admire the gardens. They are probably the finest collection of topiary in Britain, dating back to the 17th-century. The clipped yew and box hedges are under-planted with bedding plants in spring and summer, making for excellent colour. A rose garden and herbaceous borders complete this fascinating garden.
