Well worth a visit and just a few miles from this Derbyshire cottage is Sudbury Hall. This 17th-century house has sumptuous interiors, perhaps the most interesting being the Long Gallery and the Main Hall with its beautiful staircase, which was featured in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice. The house is also home to the Museum of Childhood where you can take a fresh look at childhood with a reconstructed Victorian schoolroom and nursery with old toys and games. Outside there are formal gardens; meadows at the rear lead down to the tree-fringed lake.

Sudbury Hall (N.T.) is 2 miles and Kedleston, golf and riding are all found nearby. Pub and shop 1½ miles.
