Sometimes described together, the town of Matlock and the smaller village of Matlock Bath are two distinctly different places though inevitably linked by name and proximity. Whereas Matlock itself seems solid and Victorian with neat stone houses ascending in rows up the hill, Matlock Bath has a more frivolous air. It is enclosed by the limestone cliffs of the gorge, with whitewashed Peak District cottages dotted along the hillside, and contains the main tourist attractions of the locality - some slightly tacky. Overlooking it all is the gigantic folly that is Riber Castle, built in the 1860s. Click here to see all of our Derbyshire cottages.
