Valley View Barn is just a couple of miles from Tissington, one of the prettiest and most unspoilt villages in Derbyshire. It is a well-managed estate village which has an ideal blend of duck pond, trees, cottages, church, tearooms and an old hall. It is best known for the annual well dressing ceremony. This takes place on Ascension Day (usually during May) when large crowds gather to see the wells blessed. The dressing involves erecting boards covered in clay, into which thousands of flower petals are pressed to create an elaborate tableaux of some biblical or topographical scene.

Beautiful Dovedale is just 5 miles and Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall (N.T.), Matlock Bath with Heights of Abraham cable cars, Crich Tramway Museum, and the pretty town of Bakewell (of delicious pudding fame) are all within 15 miles. A drive of 20 miles reaches the Georgian spa town of Buxton, where visitors will find show caves, ‘Go Ape’ and many arts and antique fairs. The charming town of Ashbourne boasts interesting shops and a twice weekly market (5 miles), and a dining pub and small shop are just 1.5 miles.
