With its selection of seaside cottages Sussex is a great location for a coastal holiday. These two Sussex cottages are just a few minutes from the beach in Hastings. One of the medieval Cinque Ports - the five coastal towns of Sandwich, Dover, Hythe, New Romney and Hastings which, in Medieval times, agreed to provide the king with men and ships in return for special privileges - Hastings has long had a close relationship with the sea. Although its fishing industry has declined, it still has Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet, which has for over a thousand years been launched from the shingle strand known as 'The Stade'.
