In a nutshell: Comfortable, short drive to coast, pet friendly. Our featured cottages in Sussex include this delightful property in the heart of the Weald - a rolling landscape situated between the chalk escarpments of the North and the South Downs. Just a few miles away is the Sussex coastline dotted with towns of great contrast. Bexhill on Sea is home to the De La Warr Pavilion, one of the UK's finest examples of Modernist movement architecture and now a major centre for contemporary arts. Hastings has long had a close relationship with the sea. Although its fishing industry has declined, it still has Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet, which has for over a thousand years been launched from the shingle strand known as 'The Stade'. Several centuries ago Winchelsea was a major Channel port. Today it sits quietly on its hill, gazing at the now-distant sea, but echoes of its colourful history still resonate from the ancient buildings, stone town gates and the magnificent church of cathedral proportions. Rye is also perched on a hill, but this beautifully preserved historic port still has access to the sea.

Property Description

Amidst lovely Sussex countryside, rolling down to the coast at Hastings just 3 miles away, this attractive oast house on a working farm has been carefully converted into the three charming cottages one of which we offer here. With their compact and comfortable accommodation all on one level, they enjoy a courtyard setting in relaxing surroundings with lovely walks close by. The Cinque Port of Rye with its cobbled streets and interesting shops, is only 10 miles away. Hastings offers a beach (pictured), a promenade, art centre, local history museum and a sea life centre as well as excellent town amenities. The nearest shops and pubs serving food are in the village of Westfield, just 1 mile from The Oast.
