Through selecting one of our holiday cottages Sussex and its many attractions can be discovered. Vane Cottage enjoys a peaceful setting just outside Lewes, the beautiful county town offering a mixture of the unusual and intriguing and so typically Sussex. Surrounded by chalk cliffs, beautiful countryside and the meandering River Ouse, Lewes is steeped in history. It is home to numerous historical buildings, most notably its Norman castle. The imposing stronghold sits majestically above the town and is a superb vantage point from which to view the surrounding country. Today, the medieval heart of the town with its narrow, twisting cobbled lanes or 'twittens' remains largely unspoilt. Besides its castle, Lewes is probably most famous for its Bonfire Night celebrations, when a torch lit parade takes over the usually peaceful streets. If you go shopping in Lewes look out for the Lewes pound - a currency aimed at encouraging local businesses in the town. Don't worry if you need to change any back into sterling before you leave - the town's branch of Barclays bank has agreed to accept Lewes pounds.

Property Description

Enjoying far reaching rural views, this comfortable, well equipped cottage is peacefully set only 2 miles from the beautiful South Downs. With its small, south facing garden with access to large garden (pictured), it lies across the courtyard from the owners’ home. The town of Lewes, with its Norman castle and charming cobbled medieval lanes, is 3.5 miles away and Glyndebourne Opera, Herstmonceux Castle and Observatory, Borde Hill Gardens, Wakehurst Place and Brighton’s many seaside attractions are all a short drive. Pub 1.25 miles, shop 2 miles.
