This unique place is the most easterly inhabited island in the British Isles. Mersea Island is separated into West Mersea and East Mersea. West Mersea is a quiet resort with old fishing cottages and a shingly beach, noted for its sailing, fishing and oyster farming. East Mersea is quieter, more rural with smaller, less busy beaches. Wonderfully situated just yards from the beach and sea on popular Mersea Island, this charming 17th century cottage boasts a lovely sunny interior, giving it a delightful beach house feel. The salt marshes, beach and boats at anchor provide a lovely view and the location is ideal for walking, bird watching and water sports as well as for exploring the many attractions in the area. Reached by causeway, the island is a favourite with the sailing fraternity and famous for the quality of its fish and oysters – ‘The Company Shed’ restaurant enjoys a fine reputation and the oyster bar should not be missed. Constable Country lies a mere 30 minutes’ drive away and Colchester’s castle and fine shopping are just 8 miles distant. The nearby country club offers golf and a health spa, and shops and pubs are a 500 yard stroll.
