These comfortable Kent cottages are a few miles from Hythe, the middle of the Cinque Ports (from the French meaning 'Five Ports') formed in the 11th-century. These five coastal towns (four of which are in Kent) - Sandwich, Dover, Hythe and New Romney (the other being Hastings) - agreed to provide the king with men and ships in return for special privileges. Hythe today is a pleasant seaside town. Once a thriving port, the old town, separated from the sea as a result of silting, now lies a mile inland. From The Old Post Office or any of our Kent cottages the Cinque Ports and vestiges of their defences make an ideal themed day out.
