Cathy's Say

A popular destination for those seeking to stay in holiday cottages Lincolnshire offers the chance to enjoy the best of the coast and countryside. The Lincolnshire Wolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of rolling chalk stretching for 40 miles between the Humber and the Wash and rising to over 500 feet. It is a sparsely populated - there are no large towns - historical landscape with prehistoric barrows, ancient tracks and the distant spires of fine mediaeval churches of the many unspoilt villages. The nearby coast has been dubbed the 'Fun Coast' and includes Lincolnshire's premier resort Skegness as well as Mablethorpe. The coast also has many quieter seaside villages and natural habitats. Below Skegness the Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is three miles of sandy and muddy seashore, sand dunes, salt marsh and freshwater marsh with ponds and lagoons. A network of paths is designed to take the visitor easily around the major habitats whilst keeping disturbance to a minimum. To the north of Mablethorpe, Donna Nook is a habitat for grey seals and boasts one of the largest and most accessible breeding colonies for the endangered mammal in Britain.
