In a nutshell: Broadband, king size bed, wheelchair access. This small group of comfortable Lincolnshire cottages are situated just inland from The Wash, one of the most outstanding coastal wetlands in Europe. In the autumn large numbers of migrant birds such as grey plover, knot, dunlin, oystercatcher and bar-tailed godwit arrive to feed on the invertebrates found in the sands and mudflats. The best time to see large flocks of waders is on a rising tide between September and early May as the birds are pushed by the incoming water off the mud and salt marsh onto the surrounding land. As winter approaches, duck and geese move into the Wash. Pink-footed and brent geese, wigeon, pintail and mallard are found throughout the reserve until the onset of spring. Inland from the Wash the land is flat, low-lying, and often marshy. The Fens are a large area of drained salt marsh, now a rich fertile home to the extensive arable farms. Nearby is Boston, overlooked by the landmark of 'the Stump', the tower of the parish church of St Botolph's, which is visible for miles across the surrounding fenland. If you are feeling brave, you can climb the tower to an open gallery, which, on a clear day, overlooks a third of the county. The surrounding narrow streets retain great charm. On Fish Hill, fishmongers still sell crab and brown shrimps from the chilly waters of the Wash.

Each property boasts an individual patio within the shared landscaped garden and views towards the river channel, half a mile distant, where, occasionally, large ships glide past on their way to the port of Boston – less than 4 miles away and home to a popular weekly market, varied shopping, restaurants and takeways amidst its Georgian streets. This is a lovely area for cycling on quiet lanes, bird watching and walking on the coastal paths, fishing and visiting ancient windmills.
