Devon cottages like this are a great rural retreat yet close to the glorious beaches of North Devon. Nearby is Bideford, once one of the busiest ports in the country but now a quiet fishing haven. This little white town has changed little over the years and the 13th century bridge still spans the River Torridge next to the quayside. A popular day out from Bideford to catch the ferry across to Lundy, a three mile-long isle just off the coast. The waters around the island are of special importance for their marine wildlife. They contain the finest examples of rocky reefs in Britain, with an amazing diversity of sea life including some very rare and fragile species.
