Rarely do you find character cottages in Devon in such idyllic settings. Situated in deepest rural Devon, between the thriving little market town of Hatherleigh and Holsworthy, an historic market town close to the beautiful Hartland Peninsula, this is the heart of the so-called 'Ruby Country'. Launched to regenerate the area after the devastating effects of foot-and-mouth in 2001, the idea is to increase the public's awareness of this unspoilt part of Devon, develop walking, cycling and horse riding routes, and encouraging people to come and take a look at the amazing wildlife on offer. It is a designated area of tranquillity and its unspoilt beauty is a must for any visitor looking for a taste of traditional Devon life. Named after the district's breed of Ruby Red Devon cattle, the distinctively coloured cows are one just one of the many things you notice in this part of Devon's countryside.
