When it comes to holiday cottages north Devon has a great choice of properties close to excellent beaches. These cottages are set within the beautiful dunescape of Braunton, one of the largest sand dune systems in the UK. The Burrows are a wild and natural landscape offering tranquil, sheltered spots for those seeking peace and quiet. The rarity, diversity and profusion of flora and fauna on the Burrows resulted in UNESCO recently designating it as a World Biosphere Reserve. Nearby is Saunton Sands, one of Devon's most memorable beaches. This three-mile expanse of sandy beach facing due west is cut off to the south by the combined estuaries of the rivers Taw and Torridge. This is a popular beach with surfers and ideal for families.

Set in a beautiful location within Braunton Burrows Nature Reserve and just 1½ miles from Saunton Sands' 3 mile stretch of golden surfing beach, these six delightful cottages offer a unique holiday experience. They sit amongst mature trees and shrubs in 12 acres of pastureland where mown paths meander through wildflower meadows to encircle a tranquil and picturesque lake, stocked to challenge the most ambitious coarse fisherman. Warm summer evenings can be enjoyed meandering peacefully around the lake or relaxing on one of the benches, and children will find fun and challenges in the adventure park and toddler play area. An indoor heated swimming pool and hot tub (open all year), a well equipped games room and play area for small children all add to the enjoyment and the grounds offer plenty of space for ball games. The surrounding 1,000 acre nature reserve, a designated UNESCO Biosphere, is one of Britain's finest sand dune areas with a rich variety of plant life, many of them rare.

Walking and cycling on the Tarka Trail start 1½ miles away, Saunton boasts championship golf and the nearby pretty village of Croyde has good pubs, restaurants and lovely family beach. Braunton (2 miles) offers shops, pubs, fine restaurants and an arts and crafts centre, and the lovely old market town of Barnstaple, winner of Britain in Bloom in Europe, is just 7 miles. Further afield, Arlington Court, Lundy island and Heddon Valley (all N.T.), the RHS garden at Rosemoor and Dr Smart's garden at Marwood are well worth a visit.
