The estate is in the heart of border country with magnificent views across northern Northumberland and nearby lies Flodden Battlefield, site of a particularly bloody conflict between the English and Scottish armies in 1513. For walkers there are many footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes criss-crossing the estate. Natural history enthusiasts will find nearby Ford Moss Nature Reserve a fascinating visit. You can also spend an hour or two admiring the stunning murals at Lady Waterford Hall or visit the restored 19th-century Heatherslaw Cornmill to buy mouth-watering cakes.

In a rural setting within 2 miles of the tranquil village of Bowsden, and just 7 miles from Holy Island and the Lindisfarne nature reserve on Northumberland’s Heritage coastline, this spacious and recently converted former barn is perfect for large family gatherings. Dotted with fine villages Ford and Etal with its miniature steam train closeby, castles and historic houses. An easy drive leads to the coastal village of Bamburgh, dominated by the massive rocky outcrop on which stands magnificent Bamburgh Castle and from Seahouses harbour (12 miles) there are boat trips to the Farne Islands. Within easy reach also are the lovely border towns of Coldstream, Kelso and Berwick – set within its encircling Elizabethan walls beside the majestic River Tweed, whilst a visit to Alnwick’s famous castle and gardens (featured in the Harry Potter films) should not be missed. Superb walking can be enjoyed in the Cheviot Hills and National Park and there is plenty of golf and riding locally. Pub serving food and shop 5 miles.
