Mariners Cottage

Property reference number: E4746

Cathy's Say

In a nutshell: Fabulous sea views, sauna, three bathrooms, wi-fi, pet friendly, walk to beach, pub and shops. For visitors to Northumberland cottages like this make an ideal base from which to explore the northern reaches of this beautiful county. Mariners Cottage is situated just outside Berwick-upon-Tweed, England's most dramatic walled town. Its border location meant it changed hands many times, often violently, and its town walls are testament to its past as a valued asset fought over by the English and the Scots. Venturing inside the formidable walls and you'll find a charming and eclectic Georgian market town with a huge range of things to do and enjoy including some great museums - try the Berwick Barracks and Main Guard - as well as galleries and an Arts Centre.

Property Description

Sitting on the beautiful Northumberland coastline, Mariners Cottage makes the ideal holiday retreat, boasting spacious accommodation and wonderful sea views from every room, whilst a decked area and large lawns in its lovely landscaped garden are perfect for outdoor dining and enjoying the glorious vista. Spittal’s sandy beach and promenade are just a short stroll away and a spectacular cliff-top walk leads to Cocklawburn beach. Only 2 miles away, the Elisabethan ramparts of historic Berwick-upon-Tweed are one of the town’s most impressive features. The town is also home to a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as a station from where visitors can take a 45 minute train journey to the cosmopolitan cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle. Bamburgh Castle, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne (which can be accessed by causeway at low tide) and Seahouses, with its working harbour for (seasonal) boat trips to view the fascinating seal and bird colonies of the Farne Islands, are all among the delights within easy reach, as are the many attractions of the Scottish Borders. Alnwick’s magnificent castle and acclaimed gardens are an hour’s drive away. Horse riding, fishing, an indoor swimming pool and golf are all available locally. Shops and pub serving food 0.25 mile.
