It is one of the most popular walking areas in the Peak District. The most easily accessed section of Dovedale is the three-mile stretch that begins at Milldale in the north and runs through a wooded valley where the River Dove meanders slowly through the valley.

Buxton, Ashbourne, the Heights of Abraham cable cars, Chatsworth House, Festival Park for cinema and bowling, the Potteries, and Trentham Gardens Monkey Forest are just some of the attractions found within 20 miles. Leek, a historic market town with interesting shops and good inns, is 6 miles. Dining pub and shop are 1 mile.
