In a nutshell: Pet friendly, walk to beach, harbour, pub and shops. Our featured Sutherland cottages include this property in the small scenic village of Helmsdale, halfway between Inverness and John O'Groats. Once a busy herring port, the harbour is still the focus of the village. Much of the village dates back to the early 19th century when much of it was built to house families moved out of settlements inland as part of the infamous Highland Clearances. This sad episode in the history of the Scottish Highlands is commemorated by the Emigrants' Statue in a prominent position just across the river from Helmsdale.
