With few roads crossing this dramatic landscape, Shin Cottage is a good base for touring the northernmost parts of Scotland as it is situated on the edge of the village of Lairg at a crossroads of routes, mainly single track roads, heading in all directions. From here you can get to Tongue on the north coast, Cape Wrath in the far northwest, Ullapool on the west coast and Dornoch on the east coast.

Set on the shores of Loch Shin, and commanding beautiful views across the waters to Lairg village, this very comfortably furnished cottage offers visitors bird watching and glorious forest walking from the doorstep. Surrounded by the magnificent scenery of the Sutherland Highlands, Shin Cottage adjoins another property, under half a mile from village shops, restaurants and pubs, whilst the towns of Alness, Bonar Bridge and Dornoch (20 miles) are all within easy reach as are the city of Inverness and Dunrobin Castle. This is a wonderful area for golf (6 courses within 30 minutes’ drive); mountain biking is popular and fishing is enjoyed on the River Shin as well as on the loch, where boat hire is available.
