As one of the ideal destinations for an active short break staying in holiday cottages North Yorkshire ranks high. This attractive conversion with traditional red pan tiled roof is situated close to Dalby Forest on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park with 8000 acres of forest to explore and enjoy. A nine-mile drive around the forest allows the beautiful landscape to be seen at its best. There are plenty of waymarked walks including a Habitat Trail, orienteering course and cycling trails for all abilities with bike hire available. For the more adventurous, both young and old, there is Go Ape, a high-wire forest adventure course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet high in the trees - not for the faint-hearted! The woodland is mostly comprised of pines and spruces but there are also beech, alder, ash, oak and hazel. Dalby Forest is home to many birds including the crossbill and is visited in summer by the mysterious nightjar. Many species of woodland bird, including great-spotted woodpecker, coal tit, bullfinch and siskin are often seen at the bird feeding station. A small lake in a valley is home to tufted duck and Canada geese, with occasional visits from heron, golden eye and dabchick. There is a lakeside trail circling the lake with benches along the way to sit back and enjoy the view.

Famous Castle Howard is 15 miles whilst Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay are 25 miles. There is golf, riding and fishing locally and cycle hire in Dalby Forest 6 miles. Shops and restaurant, 2 miles. Good pub, with food, 400 yards.
