With its selection of luxury cottages Kent is the ideal location for a short break. It is hard to believe that the Garden of England, as Kent is known, is just a stone's throw from London. It has a most pleasing pastoral landscape of rolling hills, wooded valleys, vineyards, orchards and hop fields. The coastline offers a range of seaside resorts, historic towns, beautiful beaches and wild seashores including the mysterious Romney Marsh and the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. With its proximity to continental Europe it is not surprising that the Kent coast is dotted with defensive structures, from castles to early 19th century Martello towers and in the south are the Cinque Ports, set up in the 11th century to provide the bulk of the English Navy's ships in exchange for trading privileges. Inland you will find windmills, oast houses, castles, gardens and stately homes. Castles include Tonbridge, Hever, the world-famous Leeds Castle - which rises from two small islands in a lake surrounded by parkland - and the ruins of the moated Scotney Castle, which has one of Britain's most romantic gardens. If you are looking for luxury cottages Kent is the place for you.
