With its magnificent scenery and selection of luxury cottages Snowdonia is the ideal location for an indulgent activity based holiday. Snowdonia can offer some of Britain's most beautiful vistas, from ocean views to mountain panoramas, from formidable castles and hill forts to historic stately homes.
The National Park encompasses an area spanning from just south of historic Conway on the North Wales coast toward Caernarfon in the west and southwards to picturesque Aberdovey and the popular Lake Bala in the east. It covers more than 800 square miles, a mix of wilderness and more gentle landscapes, including within its boundaries Snowdon at 3,650 feet - the highest peak in England and Wales - and the five-peaked massif of Cadir Idris.
The traditional resorts of Barmouth and Criccieth rank up there with the best in Britain, not to mention the sailing centre of Abersoch. Perhaps the finest castles in Wales can be found here such as Caernarfon, Harlech, Beaumaris on Anglesey and Conwy. Worth a visit is the intriguing Italianate village of Portmeirion, built in the 1920s by architect Clough Williams-Ellis. Its atmospheric estuary location has been the setting of many films including cult TV series The Prisoner.
Llanberis, beside Lake Padarn, is home to the Welsh Slate Museum, starting point for the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The nearby village of Capel Curig is a centre for outdoor pursuits. Nearby, the bustling village of Betws y Coed sits in the valley of the fast-flowing River Conwy. Towering above the quarry town of Blaenau Ffestiniog are the slate quarries which once supplied roofing materials to the rest of Britain. At the visitor centre of Llechwedd Slate Caverns, tourists can go underground to discover the miners' working conditions first-hand. When staying at any of our holiday cottages a ride on the Ffestiniog narrow-gauge railway, from the town down to the harbour at Porthmadog, is a great way to take in the scenery.
If you want to enjoy breathtaking scenery from one of our luxury cottages Snowdonia is the place for you.
