This group of Essex cottages forms part of the old village on an exclusive private island on the River Blackwater, just around the Essex coast from the Thames Estuary and conveniently close to central London. The charms of the island are immediately apparent. Approached by a causeway built in Roman times it is accessible by car at low tide, four hours in every 12, there is also a river taxi (extra charges). Enclosed by four miles of beaches and coastline this beautiful island provides an inspirational setting, as a marine sanctuary for an abundant variety of wildlife and rare birds and the only place in England where all five species of English owl can be seen. These cottages, two of which are listed buildings each having its own individual sitting-out area, clustered around the village which dates back to the 16th century and is at the centre of the island. Osea provides beautifully appointed cottages finished to a very good standard, designed to make your stay a truly unique experience. Colchester Zoo and castle, Constable Country, Mersea Island famous- for its fish and oysters - and Southend - for family fun - are within an easy drive. Pub and shop on the mainland three miles.
